But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me." 2 Corinthians 12:9
Ben had a substitute PT this week and she did really well with Ben. Ben seemed to enjoy her which made his therapies go well. She worked on alot of balancing activities, walking without the walker and then on Friday tried a rolling walker that could support Ben's upper body more. She tried to mix things up and he did really well!
Rolling walker...
Thank you Erin...
Ben had to fun of making a smoothie in between therapies this past Friday and he loved it! They try and do some sort of food making class on Fridays and this time it was smoothies...last week it was a salad! One of Ben's nicknames that he was given in the military is Bonesaw...yes, Bonesaw! Well, a few of his therapists know it and they use it on him every once in awhile! Well, this therapist in the photos below knows it...and look at the tool that she gave Ben to cut his fruit...
Bonesaw did well with the "bonesaw" of a knife! Ben loved it, wouldn't share with me (he must have remembered I didn't like banana because he added it), and finished the whole thing before we even got back to his room! He loved it!
After Ben made his smoothy I was off to get my hair did, and no this is not the finished product!
Meet Sonja! She helps Ben with breakfast in the morning, and lunch when I am not here! She is from Jamaica and promised that we could all take a trip together to get out of this nasty coldness! :) She adores Ben and Ben adores her!
This weekend was a chill weekend. Alot of down time for both of us which is nice after a busy week! Saturday I slept in a tad and then I stopped by Starbucks for a treat for Ben and yes for sure coffee for me! Ben had a short therapy session and then it was lunch time. After lunch we packed up and headed to my room. We slept, watched movies and talked. Ben and I had a deep conversation and one of the things that he brought up is that this brain injury had taken things away from him and how it's affected him. I asked him what they were and he said the following:
-I've lost time
-I am eparated from you
-I wants the person to know that hit us what happened and how many problems its caused.
-Pain I feel in therapies
-I feel deserted
-Not having kids when we wanted them
-Cold
-I don't feel worth anything
-I feel left behind
-Alone
...so you can see how deep this conversation got between us! It was amazing that he could express his feelings but it saddened me to have him feel this way. We talked more about it and then we prayed. I had Ben pray because it is good for him to pray over his own needs and take it to the Lord. We claimed the Lord's promises over his life and mine too and then just held each other close.
Sunday (today) we just had another chill day. We chatted with other patients and family members after lunch and then just rested. We were going to go to the fire station but they got busy so we just hung out. We were watching Americas Funniest Videos and on the parts that Ben thought were funny or painful he would have a big smile/smirk on his face and say, "oh that's funny" or "that would hurt!" We had some good laughs over the ones they played tonight!
I got Ben settled for the night and I always say goodnight and I love you as I walk to the door. Well tonight Ben had a surprise for me. Right after I had said my last I love you from the door Ben said, "Thank you." I went back to his bed and I asked him why and he said, "for taking care of me and for all the things you have done for me!" I told him I will do it forever and that I love him so much! Lord thank you for that BIG token of appreciation from my man! It makes me want to just keep moving forward and makes the days a little easier!
"you intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." Genesis 50:20

I think you are a rockstar too!
This was just the sweetest post. It always brings so many tears to my eyes reading how wonderful of a relationship the two of you have not only with each other but with the Lord. HE is working such wonderful things through you and your story truly inspires me daily! Thank you
Reading his list of hurts made me tear up a little bit! It really is true, though, that God's power is made perfect in weakness. Ben is experiencing human weakness more than most of us could imagine, but the flip side is that he has the opportunity to experience God's power and strength stronger than most of us could imagine!
lovely post... your last pic.. was beautiful! That is great he took so well to the new therapist! again-great post!
This was such a touching post. You both handle this huge trial with such dignity and faith. I admire you! I pray for the Lord to bless you!
Such a great post! I love the bonesaw :)
you are such an amazing woman and have an amazing man, Im constantly praying for you and Ben.
You two truly define: Love conquers all.
I have only commented a few times, but I do keep up with y'all and pray for you. I don't remember exactly when I started reading, but in the few months that I have, Ben has made such progress! It is so wonderful. I know the road must often seem so long and endless, but it is exciting to see God rewarding Ben's efforts in getting better.
A friend recently encouraged we with a thought about Job. He had lost so much. But God didn't pretend it didn't happen, He restored those losses, in HIS way, in HIS time. I couldn't help but think of that when reading about what Ben's thoughts are. Praying that God will give renewed hope and joy!
Your posts bring tears to my eyes, but they are happy tears because it just reminds me about what true love really is. Ben is truly blessed to have you in his life, and you have him. God is great and He is doing miracles with Ben. BTW, my fav pic is the one of him drinking his milkshake- it looks mischievous like "This is all my mine and I'm not going to share!!" :)
Oh that picture of you two snuggled together just warms my heart. Thank you for sharing that intimate photo. We send love and prayers and are standing believing for great things for you and Ben. I pray for a fresh touch from your comforter and friend, the holy spirit, today. Bless you guys-
